Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 June 2025

1. Introduction

At Steer Smart Driving School ("we", "our", "us") we want your learning journey to be smooth, stress‑free and great value. To do that we sometimes need a small amount of personal information. This Privacy Policy explains—in plain English—what we collect, why we collect it and how we keep it safe. By booking a lesson, using our website or otherwise interacting with us, you agree to the practices described here.

Our core promises:

  • Collect only what we genuinely need to run first‑class lessons and tell you about relevant offers.

  • Keep it secure with strong technical and organisational measures.

  • Give you clear choices and control at every stage.

2. The information we collect—and how it helps you

We collect information you knowingly provide, for example when you complete an online enquiry, speak to an instructor or sign up for special promotions:

  • Identity & Contact – name, date of birth (to confirm licence eligibility), postal address, email, phone.

  • Driving details – provisional‑licence status, preferred lesson slots, accessibility needs.

  • Marketing preferences – your choices on receiving lesson reminders, progress tips and exclusive discounts.

3. How we use your information

Generally speaking, a Privacy Policy often addresses these types of issues: the types of information the website is collecting and the manner in which it collects the data; an explanation about why is the website collecting these types of information; what are the website’s practices on sharing the information with third parties; ways in which your visitors and customers can exercise their rights according to the relevant privacy legislation; the specific practices regarding minors’ data collection; and much, much more.

To learn more about this, check out our article “Creating a Privacy Policy”.

4. Cookies

Our Wix‑powered site uses:

  • Essential cookies to secure your session and keep the booking form working.

  • Analytics cookies (optional) to see which pages learners find most useful so we can improve them.

  • Marketing cookies (optional) used by platforms such as Facebook to show you relevant ads.

We ask for your consent before setting anything non‑essential, in line with Wix guidance.

Google Ads, Cookies & Personalised Advertising

We use Google Ads (including Conversion Tracking and, where you consent, Remarketing) to promote Steer Smart and measure campaign performance. When you accept advertising cookies on our site:

  • How it works – Google and other third-party vendors place cookies or mobile identifiers on your device to display Steer Smart ads on Google Search, YouTube and sites across the Google Display Network based on your prior visits to our website.

  • What data is shared – The cookies record your IP address, browser/device details and pages visited; we do not receive information that personally identifies you.

  • Legal basis – Processing is based on your explicit consent (Art. 6 (1)(a) UK GDPR). You can withdraw consent at any time (see “Manage cookies” link in the footer).

  • Opt-out options –

  • International transfers – Google LLC may process data on servers in the US or EU; transfers are safeguarded by the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and Google’s Data Processing Terms.

  • More information – Google Privacy & Terms: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Personalised-ad cookies are not set until you give consent via our cookie banner, and all Google Ads cookies expire automatically after a maximum of 13 months, unless you clear them sooner.

5. Who sees your data

We only share your details when it’s absolutely necessary:

  1. Our Approved Driving Instructors – so they can tailor your lesson plan and pick‑up arrangements.

  2. Trusted IT partners – e.g. Wix (website), Microsoft 365 (email). All are bound by contracts that protect your data and, where servers sit outside the UK, by the ICO‑recognised International Data Transfer Addendum (IDTA).

  3. Professional advisers – accountants and legal advisers who keep us compliant.

  4. Authorities – HMRC, police or DVSA if we are legally obliged to cooperate.

We may compile anonymous statistics (e.g. average pass rate by postcode) to improve our business. These statistics do not identify individuals.

6. External links

Our site occasionally links to helpful third‑party resources such as theory‑test practice apps. Once you leave our domain, their privacy policies apply. We recommend reading them before submitting any personal information.

7. Data retention

  • Prospective pupils – 12 months after your last enquiry.

  • Active pupils – lesson and payment records kept for 7 years for tax purposes.

  • Marketing opt‑in – until you opt out or 24 months after your last lesson, whichever is sooner.

We securely delete or anonymise data when it is no longer needed.

8. Updates

We may update this notice from time to time (for example, if the law changes or we add new services). Major changes will be highlighted on our website. The date at the top always shows when it was last revised.
